AstroWorld's Greezed Lightnin' Heads to New Mexico
A new plan has been put in place to reopen the famous Greezed Lightnin' roller coaster from the shuttered Six Flags AstroWorld theme park.
Amusement Today is reporting that Joyland Park, which purchased the ride when AstroWorld closed, will do a swap for Cliff's Amusement Park's former SCS water play structure.
Joyland was disappointed to learn that resurrecting Greezed Lightnin' would cost far too much, and the ride has sit idle since. Meanwhile, Cliff's Amusement Park is building a brand new, much larger, water play structure this year and no longer needed their older model.
Showing a true camaraderie between parks, both Joyland and Cliff's agreed to the switch and now the rest will become history.
There's no timetable set for the instillation of Greezed Lightnin' at Cliff's, but it is great news that the ride has another hope of running again. Originally opened in 1978, the coaster is a Schwarzkopf fly-wheel launched shuttle loop. Only a handful of the rides are still operating, making the swap even more notable.
