WhiteWater's New Uphill Mat Blaster Wins Brass Ring for Best New Product

Mat racing water slides have quickly become a water park staple, so it only makes sense that WhiteWater would push the boundary and turn this classic into a fresh new idea.  Known as a Mat Blaster, the company added their Master Blaster technology into the slide, creating uphill sections that riders - laying head first on mats - rush up and over, very much like a roller coaster.  The first Mat Blaster in the world opened this past June at Yinji Xinmi, located in China, and has been a smash success.

The initial instillation starts with a 13 foot plunge downward, followed by two up-hill sections and finally a set of enclosed turns.  The ride's design has been honored by IAAPA with this year's Best New Product in the annual Brass Ring Awards.

WhiteWater's Mat Blaster is fully customizable, so it can appeal to water parks of various sizes.  It can have different amounts of uphill sections, twists and turns, and anywhere from 2 to 8 lanes for racing.  Mat Racers have been popular at parks in part due to their high hourly capacity, so this innovation holds a lot of potential for additional installations.  Can't wait to try one out, I have a feeling we will see them start popping up sooner than later!

WhiteWater Celebrates Opening of China's Largest Water Park

WhiteWater has been the only supplier of water attractions at what will be China's largest water park, Yinji Kaifeng Water World in China.  The contract for the water rides is the largest in history for a water park supplier, and includes an enormous amount of attractions.  The park opened on July 1st and has already proven very popular.

“We are extremely proud to work with Yinji Dynasty to assist them in bringing a new level of waterpark sophistication to the industry. This park is going to raise the bar for Chinese tourism destinations all around the country,” comments Geoff Chutter, President & CEO, WhiteWater.

The new water park will also be home to two unique "fusion" rides.  One combines an AquaLoop and a Flatline loop (seen above) and another is the first combination of an AquaSphere and a Constructor.  The fusion rides have already proven to be headlining attractions on their own at parks around the globe.  The AquaLoop and Flatline loop above looks especially twisted and fun!

In total there are nine separate waterslide complexes which boast almost 50 different waterslides.  Some of the park's other attractions include:

• China's first Manta waterslide, featuring a giant wave wall
• A traditional Shoot the Chute ride
• Three different AquaPlay structures, one of which is seen above
• Two Wave Rider attractions and a FlowRider Double
• Three different wave pools

The property will also offer evening light and sound shows, offer a hot spring center and hotel accommodations.

New WhiteWater Attractions Designed Flume Opens at Calaway Park

Located in Calgary, Alberta Canada, Calaway Park has opened a brand new log flume designed by WhiteWater Attractions - the Timber Falls Log Flume.  The ride is a major new attraction for the park, and begins with riders moving through the themed queue and three interactive buildings - all a part of the Timber Falls Sawmill experience.

To help keep the line for the attraction moving, the park decided to go with a conveyor belt loading system, with the logs in perpetual motion.

A trip down the river on the flume includes three separate high-speed drops, a zig-zag river section, and "two themed timber shacks."  WhiteWater Attractions has also made some design improvements to the ride's boats, allowing for a more comfortable ride experience.

“We are excited to bring Timber Falls to our guests. Being our first themed ride, not only does it thrill our guests with high velocity drops, it interacts with them in the entertaining, fast moving queue line. Timber Falls is a game changer; it aligns with the overall growth plan for the park,” comments Bob Williams, General Manager, Calaway Park.

Wanting to keep things interesting for non-riders, Calaway Park added two different water cannons that - if timed just right - can soak passengers on the flume.  The ride will also re-purpose 95% of the water it uses, a 'green' effort of which the park is known for.

WhiteWater Attractions is the combination of Hopkins Rides and Prime Interactives, two 'dry' segments of the larger company.  I love log flumes and am so happy to see a new one going up, even if in Canada.  There are some parks that have removed their older log flumes, so I hope they take notice to this instillation!

NASCAR Coming to a Water Park Near You

Well, it's certainly a possibility that NASCAR could soon be at your local water park!  WhiteWater has signed a licensing agreement with NASCAR to bring their logo and marks on "approved themed rides and products" that the company creates.  NASCAR remains one of the world's best-known sporting brands.

“This is the first branding deal of its kind in the waterpark industry and we’re super thrilled to have entered into an agreement with this high-profile American company,” said WhiteWater founder and CEO Geoff Chutter. “Creating an experience around the NASCAR theme will certainly add to the WOW experience for our guests.”

WhiteWater is already planning, and shopping around to several water parks, a NASCAR themed multi-lane mat racing slide.  The racing aspect of this type of slide makes it a perfect fit for the theme, and I would expect to see this one come to fruition rather quickly.  Also seen above is a mock design for a NASCAR themed water play structure, containing plenty of custom race elements throughout.

WhiteWater is a company that installs attractions and rides at parks around the globe, and that fact was especially attractive to NASCAR.  Blake Davidson, Vice President of Licensing and Consumer Products at NASCAR notes that “we select our licensees very carefully, and WhiteWater, with its global reach and emphasis on innovation, proved to be a great fit for our company.”

The water park industry as a whole has continued to thrive and grow in recent years, a trend that isn't showing signs of slowing down.  I would expect more partnerships like this one to arrive soon!

WhiteWater Secures Record-Breaking Deal for China Park

WhiteWater has announced that they have the "largest-ever single order for the global water park sector," striking a deal with Zhengzhou Yinji Kaifeng Waterpark in China that is worth in excess of $29 million.

The new water park will be the largest in China when it opens in 2015, featuring both indoor and outdoor sections.  The indoor section will have peak capacity of 15,000 guests, with the outdoor part handling 32,000.

The amount of attractions that are a part of the deal are staggering:

• Nine separate waterslide towers with a combined 50 waterslides
• Three custom themed AquaPlay structures
• A Shoot the Chute splash ride
• Three different wave pools
• Two types of wave rivers
• A FlowRider Double

The work for Zhengzhou Yinji Kaifeng Waterpark includes designing the entire park, providing engineering services, construction management as well as after sales service and maintenance.  “This is a remarkable project for WhiteWater,” says Geoff Chutter, the company’s CEO and founder. “Since 1980, we’ve been committed to creating world-class, entertaining waterparks. Yinji Dynasty’s recent order is a testament to that commitment and to our growth.”

WhiteWater's New Slideboarding to Debut at Wet'n'Wild Las Vegas in 2015

A new water park ride concept will make its world debut at Wet'n'Wild Las Vegas in 2015,  manufacturer WhiteWater has announced.

Slideboarding "is a waterslide that integrates gaming, skill, edge, and competitive sports into an experience that will define waterparks of the future.  It’s a waterslide that uses a state-of-the art ride vehicle with an S3 embedded game controller that when combined creates what we call a Slideboard. It uses a smart gaming system that knows who you are and tracks your progress/scores over your run down the waterslide as well as multiple runs thereafter. This system also posts the scores on the Scoreboards and on the home app and Slideboarding Website."

"Manning your slideboard, you get into riding position at the entry tub with the goal of mastering the targets with your quick gaming fingers gripping the cool looking game controller vehicle. You launch into an atmospheric light show with sensor-activated targets challenging you at every turn. Tap the right buttons on the controller with skill and agility as you go down the waterslide hitting the targets in an effort to score the highest points possible."

The slide will actually be able to adapt to riders as they move down the course, changing targets to be more difficult if it senses that an advanced slider is playing.  Slideboarding can be added to an existing 54" diameter tube/open water slide and can utilize one or two person slideboards.  It seems as though an existing slide at Wet'n'Wild Las Vegas will be transformed into a new Slideboarding attraction.

WhiteWater will show off their new attraction at the upcoming European and Orlando based IAAPA shows, and have plenty of additional information available on their website.

WhiteWater Attractions Shows Off New Attraction Offerings

They're already known as one of the industry leaders in the water park attraction market, but WhiteWater is also spreading the word that they've got even more to offer than that.  The company recently created WhiteWater Attractions, a division that features a selection of both wet and dry attractions that are already popular in parks across the globe.

Featuring creations from the catalog of both Hopkins Rides and Prime Interactives, there's everything from log flumes to rope courses, shoot the chutes to climbing walls and a ton more in between.  Hopkins is well known as one of the premier water ride providers, and their legacy can be found in many amusement and theme parks.

WhiteWater Attractions is also rolling out new designs that I think will catch the eye of many.  Above is No Boundaries, described as an "edgy and exciting iconic attraction offering high-thrill and high-challenge activities for guests of all ages and skill levels."  Interactive attractions are growing in popularity, and No Boundaries takes that up a notch by combining both harnessed and unharnessed activities in one attraction.

The example above shows the combination of several elements, including "a horizontal challenge course, radical vertical uphill climbs with downward controlled descents and a winding aerial zip coaster."  No doubt that the zip coaster will be a highlight - I know that personally I'm ready to get in line for that one!

Another new design is the Raft Battle, what WhiteWater Attractions is calling the "next generation" of river water battle attractions.  The ride utilizes round rafts with riders seated facing outward, equipped with a spray gun of course.  The rafts will float freely and rotate on their own in the current, adding an element of unpredictability to this already popular style of ride.

The Raft Battle is fully customizable and able to be themed however a park may like - theming is certainly something that makes rides such as this really shine.  The above example design includes plenty of pedestrian bridges that allow interaction between both riders and non-riders.

WhiteWater Acquires FlowRider Product Line

WhiteWater has announced the acquisition of the FlowRider product line from WaveLoch, which includes the FlowRider, FlowBarrel, FlowCurl, FlowHouse, Wave-in-a-Box, and WaveOz surfing simulators.

Previously WhiteWater was the exclusive licensee of the FlowRider technology, but now they will be the full owners.  Aquatic Development Group will continue to be the marketer and manufacturer of the FlowRider product line in the U.S. and Eastern Canadian markets.

The FlowRider acquisition is actually the third for WhiteWater in the past two years, adding to their ever-growing selection of water park attractions.  "We are not only adding another ORIGINAL product to the WhiteWater portfolio but also adding the creative talents of another ORIGINAL waterpark pioneer to the family,” said WhiteWater President and CEO Geoff Chutter.

WhiteWater promises that the future of flowboarding is bright, and has already created a new FlowRider and Waves business unit within the company.  Here's to seeing more of these attractions installed at water parks around the glove.

Beautiful New Slide Tower Now Open at Atlantis The Palm

WhiteWater is proud to be showing off the enormous tower of slides that it has created for Atlantis - The Palm, located in Dubai.  Seen in the photo above from afar, the complex is known as the Tower of Poseidon and stands an impressive 131 feet above the beautiful Atlantis resort.  The expansion represents a significant increase in the amount of water attractions offered as part of Atlantis' Aquaventure Waterpark.

The slides that make up the attractions on the Tower of Poseidon were manufactured by WhiteWater, and represent some of the latest thrilling attractions they offer.  The Aquaconda is the world's largest diameter waterslide at 30 feet, and actually has two body slides (called Slitherine) that pass through the its flume.

The tower is also the starting point for other slides, such as a massive Family Boomerango that is called Zoomerango at Atlantis.  The family sized rafts plunge down a steep drop and up the side of a half pipe giving riders the feeling of zero gravity all the while.  There are also a pair of dueling AquaLoops called Poseidon's Revenge that start with a trip door plunge.

On hand for the grand opening, WhiteWater’s COO, Michael Heaven commented on the expansion, “We are proud to have been selected and challenged by Atlantis The Palm to deliver yet another record breaker for their waterpark expansion and are thrilled with the result.  The excellent feedback and excitement from guests is nearly as exhilarating as the experience itself!”

WhiteWater Supplying Huge Slide Tower to Atlantis The Palm

Set to open this August is a massive new waterslide tower complex at Atlantis The Palm, located in Dubai.  Known as The Tower of Poseidon, the structure was provided by WhiteWater and contains a total of six different slides "overflowing with features not seen anywhere else in the world."

The themed tower stands an impressive 131 feet tall at its maximum height.  It features the world's "largest" waterslide in terms of diameter, one of the company's Anaconda slides that is an amazing 30 feet in diameter.  Running directly through that massive flume are two AquaTube slides - the slide within a slide feature allows riders on both to interact with one another. 

Also from the tower - and original to the Middle East - is a Family Boomerango slide and two "dueling" AquaLoops.  While not a water attraction, the complex is also the starting point for the world's first zipline that is incorporated into a waterslide tower.  The two lane, two way zip lines use three towers over the course of the journey.

The addition is in Atlantis The Palm's Aquaventure Waterpark, which already has four Master Blaster water coasters and the Leap of Faith waterslide which drops directly through a live shark tank - among many other attractions.

WhiteWater Builds New Fusion Waterslide in Japan

How cool does this new slide tower look?  The "fusion" waterslide, called such because it blends two of the company's products into one attraction, has opened at Nagashima Resort in Japan.  The park is home to the massive Steel Dragon 2000 - complete with new trains from B&M - which can be seen in the background of the image.

But back to the waterslide.  Designed by WhiteWater, the attraction fuses together one of their thrilling Family Boomerango slides with one of their new Manta slides and then doubles the entire attraction!  Using a mirror image duplicate, both slides start from the same launch platform but interact with each other the entire way down.

As described by WhiteWater, "the journey begins with the classic sensation of rafting, leading into a screaming, velocity-building drop that launches riders up the famous Boomerango wall, making them feel like they are “going vertical” then weightless all the while getting a bird’s eye view of what is coming next.  They fall back and barely have time to catch their breath while racing warp speed across a flat section propelling them right into the rushing waters of the Manta where maximum oscillations and a plunge to the finish will leave them breathless and eager to ride again and again."

WhiteWater to Debut New Aquasphere Slide

WhiteWater has announced that a new slide complex will be built in Australia's Frankston Regional Aquatic Center, and it will feature their new AquaSphere design.  The tower will also have one of their popular Constrictor slides as well.

The new AquaSphere slide appears to have several large soccer balls positioned after different segments of the slide, where riders will drop down and slide on the side of the sphere.

According to WhiteWater's website, the sphere elements can have light and sound shows installed in them, adding to the thrill, along with translucent slide sections.  Inside the 16 foot spheres, rafts will "bank around 90 degree corners and experience extreme oscillations that seem to last forever."

The slide is visually impressive, and I'm sure parks around the world have already taken notice of this new product.  I'll be excited to see if these start to pop up at parks in our neck of the woods!

WhiteWater Breaks Personal Quarterly Sales Record

Water Parks are hot.  Well, technically they're where you go to cool off, but they're hot in the sense that they're still expanding around the globe - a popularity which has helped WhiteWater, a leading water park attraction provider, to have record sales in the first quarter of 2013.

The company has report that they signed a "record volume of sales orders" in the quarter, topping out at over $70 million in value.

Geoff Chutter, WhiteWater’s President & CEO said, “We attribute this success to the energy and momentum built by our commitment to creative innovation coupled with our long standing reputation for quality and customer service.  We have been thrilled with the response to our newest generation of ORIGINAL innovations.”

The record sales were divided evenly between the Asian, European/Middle East, and North America markets, further showing that the industry's growth is global.  WhiteWater has been having great interest in its latest products, including the AquaCourse interactive play structure, MEGAtubes attractions, the Rattler and the AdrenaLIM water coaster.

WhiteWater Shows Off AdrenaLIM Water Coaster

WhiteWater has opened one of their new AdrenaLIM water coasters at Guatemala's Xocomil Waterpark.  The attraction is the first of its kind in Latin America and utilizes "cutting-edge linear induction technology" to send the rafts up and down the hills of the ride.  According to WhiteWater's press release, the ride features the largest drop on a ride of its kind.

The design is a modification or evolution of WhiteWater's Master Blaster water coaster, only it uses Linear Induction Motors - that's magnetic propulsion - instead of high pressure water to push rafts up hills.  The ride's inflatable four person rafts allow for riders to be in either water park attire or street clothes as they are able to stay "relatively dry."  This fact is one of the marketing angles for the attraction, allowing parks to gain an attraction that could draw from a larger base of guests.

Amazing New Water Park - Yas Waterworld

I've been checking out construction photos of this place for a while, and now that it is officially open I figured it was worth sharing with everyone.  Located just across Ferrari World on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, Yas Waterworld has opened and looks like one heck of a water park.

The highly themed property centers around the "Legend of the Lost Pearl," and is far more than just a collection of traditional water slides.

The park boasts 43 different rides and attractions, making it one of the largest parks of its kind anywhere.  The above photos are from WhiteWater, which is proud to have supplied 12 of the park's 14 water slide complexes that make up Yas Waterworld.  The slides include several world's firsts, including a family Rattler slide, and a huge flow barrel surfing wave.

The park has also opened a version of WhiteWater's SplashQuest interactive video game, named Pearl Masters at Yas Waterworld.  Guests who play "search for lost treasures, interact with magical creatures, fire water cannons and solve ancient puzzles and tap into the hero within you," according to the park.

The layout of the water park is rather large, and includes several shopping and food areas as well, located indoors to avoid the heat.  There's of course a gigantic wave pool and lazy river among the more traditional water park attractions.  Kids will enjoy a water playhouse structure as well as a covered area with mini versions of many of the big slides.

One definitively not traditional attraction featured at Yas Waterworld is the Bandit Bomber, an inverted roller coaster where riders can blast those on the ground with water bombs.  Likewise, there's plenty of water cannons along the ride's path that people on the ground can blast up at passing trains.  The coaster is the first of Vekoma's "Splash Party" line of water coasters - perhaps if it is a success we will see more of them in the future.

While WhiteWater has made most of the slides at the park, Proslide did make two rather significant contributions.  Both are family style water coasters, but one of them ends in a giant Tornado funnel, the first of its kind (that I've seen, at least).

Weekly Rewind 1.12.13

WhiteWater has completed their first SilkGel slide resurfacing project at the West Edmonton Mall.  The photo on the left shows the before slide on the left, and after on the right.  The technology allows slides to be resurfaced and brightened, offering superior protection and resistant color fading.

Michigan's Adventure has given a name to their new Larson Flying Scooters, the Lakeside Gliders.  According to this story, the new ride will be set up near the park's main lake, hence the name.

Disney Parks had quite a management shake up this past week, with many executive level positions changing jobs.  The leader of Disneyland will now oversee the entire Disney World resort, and the former leader of Animal Kingdom will take over Disneyland - among many other switches.  Read the full details here.

The heavy work is now underway to Fun Spot America, as seen in many recent photos that the park is sharing.  The work right now is focused on the park's new Skycoaster and the White Lightning wooden coaster, as well as some of the park's other buildings.  Looking good!

The ground is exploding at Six Flags St. Louis.  But on purpose!  They're blowing up the ground as part of the foundation work for the new Boomerang roller coaster.  Check out video of that here.

Down with big vacations, and forever live on the Staycations!  That is the future, or at least a big part of it, so says Cedar Fair CEO Matt Ouimet.  And he should care, considering that his kingdom of parks are all regional and perfect for staycations.

Kings Island does a great job with their social media presence, and has introduced yet another neat feature on their website.  The park is now cooking up a photo of the day, the first week of which has featured some neat looks back at the park's history.

More expansion seems to be on the agenda for Legoland Florida, where many believe that a Pirate themed area will be added this year.  The park is not saying anything official on the new, however, so we will have to wait to see if those rumors are true.

Pointbuzz has up a new video about recent developments at both Cedar Point and Cedar Fair, including an early look at GateKeeper's keyhole element being fabricated.  The interviews with Matt Ouimet and Rob Decker are definitely worth a watch.

WhiteWater Wins Three Brass Ring Awards at IAAPA 2012

WhiteWater had a very good IAAPA experience this year, taking home a record three Brass Ring awards.  Two were given to the water attraction manufacturer in the category of Best New Product - one for the AquaCourse and one for the SilkGel Technology, used in water slides.  A third was given out for Best Exhibit, which went to the recently acquired Hopkins Rides.

AquaCourse "challenges guests to traverse through an exhilarating aquatic course of ropes, towers, bridges, water cannons and other interactive water features. With multiple tracks that offer varying degrees of water and exploration, AquaCourse is a true family adventure."

WhiteWater's SilkGel comes with a ten year warranty against fading and chalking, and the one-of-a-kind product is now the standard for every flume created by the company.

The company's President and CEO, Geoff Chutter said "Wow! This year's IAAPA Expo is one for the WhiteWater history books! We are honoured and pleased to be awarded three awards this year, as it really reinforces our growth and focus on being the ORIGINAL Waterpark & Attractions Company."

Scott And Carol Present - Continued Coverage From IAAPA 2012

Welcome to more coverage from IAAPA Expo 2012. It is overcast, but still warm, so we stayed indoors and roamed the floor some more since it looks like rain.

WhiteWater West received the Honorable Mention award for the AquaCourse, which combines a ropes course with water interactivity. The spectators can blast the people on the trail, and of course, the adventurers can exact their revenge. Guests can choose from either wet or dry trails, with varying degrees of difficulty.

Here is just one of the theming options available for the attraction. This was in the Waterpark Ride/Attraction category.

Something that should be required for a option all ropes course is a "pull over to the side of the trail," to let the speedy youngsters go by and then resume at your own speed, to better enjoy the attraction.

Lo-Q took first place in the Revenue/Wristbands/RFID Technology. A waterproof Q-Bot, with the ability to register as a group and keep everybody synchronized. They even have the ability to theme the units. 

Steve Drake, COO of Lo-Q, explained how the technology works and why they have seen such high demand. Coming soon to a park near you, it appears the wave of the future is now pounding on the beach.

Avius Insight took first place in the Services/Equipment/Supplies division with their Optimus system. Allowing real-time customer feedback, whether through kiosks or text messaging, this allows operators to measure and make adjustments attentive to customer's needs right away, without going through a data mining process and potentially allowing the guest experience to be less than optimal. What a great way to expedite an organization's customer service model.

Extreme Engineering won Honorable Mention for their new deacceleration technology for zip lines. They also offer portable zip lines for events.

The new Twist and Spray from Mack will be their first installation in North America. While the theming will be different, there will be 3 boats of each of the 3 platforms and when you combine that with spectators spraying the boats while the boats spray each other, the effect will be wet chaos.



Sally, our favorite dark ride company, is very modest. They keep their awards in the conference room. Good thing they don't need to have a bulletin board in there too, there isn't enough room.

We have already covered this award winning ride previously. Does anyone know a cheap way to fly to Australia? The News Plus Notes jet is just a dream at this point, but why doesn't someone stateside buy one of these?

Seasonal Designs has some wonderful light sculptures, the flamingos appear at Busch Gardens Africa during their ChristmasTown celebration. With several flocks along the path, they have their own section of the park. We only saw them during the day, but if they look this good under the bright lights of IAAPA, they must be amazing after dark.

Previously announced, Premier is already celebrating this ride. This is just another good reason to go to Six Flags Magic Mountain, the only place you can ride on both the inside and outside of the same loop.
