Six Flags Great Adventure Will Create Total Mayhem in 2016

Six Flags Great Adventure will "dominate as the king of chaos" in 2016 when the park premiers Total Mayhem, a 4D Free Fly Coaster as its star attraction.

The new coaster will start with a vertical climb up a 12 story lift hill, giving riders a wonderful view of both the theme park and the adjacent lake.  Total Mayhem will be located in the former location of the park's aqua theater and lakeside grand stands and is manufactured by S&S Worldwide.

The ride's cars will hold eight riders per cycle, each seated with their legs dangling on the outside of the ride's track.  The coaster, much like its sibling Batman The Ride at Six Flags Fiesta Texas, will utilize magnets along the track to provide at least six different inversions during the experience.  Along with the flips will be several moments of pure weightlessness, and beyond vertical plunges downward.

Total Mayhem's layout contains three four levels of track stacked on top of itself, making the ride have a fairly small footprint. The new coaster will stand out among the park's foliage with black supports and one orange and one red running rail for track.

"We are thrilled to unveil one of the newest concepts in roller coaster engineering with Total Mayhem,” said Park President John Fitzgerald. “Six Flags Great Adventure’s world-renowned coaster collection will expand into the realm of insanity – or spinsanity – with this new, vertical coaster that delivers gravity-defying somersaults with utter unpredictability. It is the perfect addition to our dynamic line-up of award-winning roller coasters because this ride delivers next generation, cutting-edge thrills.”

The park has released this promotional video, highlighting what a ride on Total Mayhem will be like.  The park is already calling it their "most intense" coaster to date.  Other features, per the press materials include:

  • Massive, imposing, floating and twisting I-box track frame in a unique two-tone design
  • One-of-a-kind onboard magnetic technology featuring smooth head-over-heels free-fly flips providing guests the feeling of weightlessness as they soar outside the confines of a traditional track
  • 4-D wing vehicles that seat up to 8 per vehicle with a total of 5 vehicles
  • Face-off seats that allow riders to face each other as they tumble head over heels
  • A 120-foot-tall, 90-degree hill that is ascended by an elevator-style, chain link lift
  • Two beyond 90-degree “raven” drops giving the sensation of free-falling

Six Flags Great Adventure has more information, videos and photos of Total Mayhem available on their website. Looking forward to trying this one out next Summer!
