Some Details Emerge for Alton's SW7

According to this story from This Is Staffordshire, Alton Towers has released some new details of their planned 2013 roller coaster, code named Secret Weapon Seven.  The ride will feature a "world's first" element, which is still being kept a secret - Screamscape has posted what they've heard, and if it turns out to be true, well, it sounds pretty barf inducing!

The story is reporting that the ride will cost £18 million, which is an impressive $29 million, so we are talking about a mega ride here.

Expected to be a Gerstlauer, but not confirmed yet, the ride will be 3,830 feet long, which is bigger than Takabisha, a rather large Gerstlauer ride that opened last year.  Alton's new ride will hit a top speed of 53 milers per hour from a maximum drop of 98 feet.

The article also mentions "64 passengers per ride" which doesn't make sense considering Gerstlauer's use of individual trains, though if there are eight trains, each seating eight people, well then that sounds about right.

We will have to hang in there to hear more, but it sounds like it is shaping up to be quite a ride!

This looks like a new 'wing' coaster like the one at Hershey Park in Hershey, PA.
