New Pendulum Thrill Ride - Tigeren - Opening in 2019 at Djurs Sommerland

Large pendulum thrill rides, available from several ride manufacturers, are proving to be a hot ticket in the amusement industry over the past few seasons.  Several of these rides have opened each season in parks across the globe, and it looks like the trend will continue in 2019.

Djurs Sommerland, located in Denmark, has announced the addition of Tigeren to the park's Wild Asia themed section for 2019.  The ride will be one of Intamin's Gyro Swings, which hits speeds of up to 62 miles per hour and a maximum swing angle of 120 degrees.  At the top of that swing the highest part of the pendulum will be around 147 feet in the air, according to the park.

This animation of Tigeren shows just how tall the ride will be, and it will indeed tower over all of the park's existing roller coasters.  When Crazanity opens this summer at Six Flags Magic Mountain it will be the tallest pendulum ride at 172 feet, not that the 147 feet of Tigeren is any less impressive!

Djurs Sommerland continues to expand on a regular basis, with two new family rides opening in 2018, and a unique Intamin suspended inverted ride, DragonKongen having opened in 2017.

Large Family Suspended Coaster Opening at Djurs Sommerland in 2017

Denmark's Djurs Sommerland is already home to an impressive lineup of roller coasters, and has just announced that it will be joined by a new ride again in 2017.  The park has grown steadily over the last decade or so, building major new rides and roller coasters that even some of the industry's largest players must be jealous of.

What really put them on the map for coaster fans was Piraten, one of Intamin's coveted Mega-Lite designs.  They've also added a family launched coaster (Juvelen) also from Intamin, along with a Mack water coaster and Gerstlauer bobsled ride.

Now the park will add a suspended family roller coaster for the 2017 season, though a manufacturer has not yet been named for it.  Well, actually, the ride hasn't been named yet either, but the above announcement video gives a solid look at the layout and features.

For a family coaster, the new attraction is pretty large: around 98 feet tall, 2,700 feet long with a top speed of 53 miles per hour.  That certainly puts it at the far end of the family ride spectrum in my book!

The video shows a curving first drop into a tunnel, and a second tunnel later in the ride where the train will also interact with some rockwork landscaping.  Oh and there's an awful lot of fire in the preview too, so let's hope that translates into it being a part of the experience!  We will keep watch for more details on this one as they are released.

Take a Spin On Juvelen at Djurs Sommerland

Today was the opening of Djurs Sommerland's new coaster, Juvelen or 'Jewel,' and the CoasterClub Denmark was there and filmed a point-of-view video of the new ride! They sent notice of the new video, which shows off what they describe as an "extreme family coaster," and I thought you all might enjoy it.

The ride was designed by Intamin, and features two separate tire driven launches to get the train moving at 53 miles per hour.  And for a launched coaster you'll notice that the ride duration is longer than average, obviously in part to the 3,280 feet of track.  It's not tall and doesn't feature any inversions, but the speed and family-friendly layout will make this ride quite popular, no doubt.

The trains are themed as ATVs, and the overall theme is a jungle adventure.  You'll notice that the start of the ride actually features a dark, special effects section - but with the camera on the first car it is hard to see just what takes place.

Djurs Sommerland is also home to another Intamin ride, Piraten, a mega-lite for which many people rave.  Jewel marks another ride that will elevate the park's reputation even further!

Djurs Sommerland's Juvelen Update

Djurs Sommerland (located in Denmark) announced a new Intamin launched coaster back in November, and since then the ride's track and supports have been completed and the elaborate theming the ride will have is now underway.

The ride's name is Juvelen, which means Jewel in English.  The ride stretches 3,280 feet long and utilizes a tire launch system according to RCDB.  It is not meant to be a high intensity thrill coaster, instead I believe it is being aimed toward being a ride the whole family may enjoy together.

The photo above was taken before the ride's track was complete, but shows off some of the thematic elements that will be found along the ride's path.

After Juvelen's initial launch the ride hits its high point, the tallest hill seen above.  After that point the coaster careens around a series of low to the ground curves and hills.  Not too dissimilar to Manta at SeaWorld San Diego (aside from manufacturer) in concept.  You can see some additional bits of theming along the path in this view, too.

I stitched two of the park's photos together for this shot, because when I did you could see the majority of the ride's layout at once.

The first launch is over on the far left, followed by the curve into the high point of the ride in the center.  From there I get lost, though, as things get rather twisted rather quickly.  Riders will sit on some pretty uniquely ATV themed vehicles as they fly through a jungle like setting.  There will be a large temple structure for the coaster's station, and parts of the track will also be over a man-made lagoon.

I look forward to seeing the finished product, the theming is already looking great.  The park has done an excellent job with its other recent additions, so I have no doubts that Juvelen will turn out just as nice.

Djurs Sommerland Building Intamin Launched Coaster for 2013

Denmark's Djurs Sommerland has announced a major addition for next year, Juvelen (meaning Jewel), which is a double-launch Intamin motorbike coaster.

The park had been teasing the ride for some time, showing off construction photos and footers being poured, but now they've revealed all.  Well, mostly everything that is.  The ride's trains will be themed to off road ATV looking contraptions, with normal seating instead of the motorcycle position.  The ride will travel through a heavily themed jungle setting, and if the concept art above pans out it should be fairly impressive.

As for the ride itself, the track length will be just under 3,300 feet long, and reach a top speed of 53 miles per hour.  The park has released this video showing off the layout.  The video is simple and just meant to show the basics, so hopefully this family ride will look considerably better when it opens!
