A New Plan For Rye Playland

With the County of Westchester accepting proposals for the future of Playland Park, a group named PlaylandWatch has stepped up and made their plan available to the public.

Groups have until March 10th to submit their proposals for the future of the historic amusement park.

PlaylandWatch's suggestions are all self-funding, and center around ways to keep the park as an amusement facility, but bring its operations up to date to make it a financial success.  They've listed dozens of ways they think that could happen in their proposal - everything from online tickets and changes in marketing to adding merchandising kiosks on property.

The plan does not propose any new rides or other large capital expansions as of now - only maintaining existing structures and rides.

The full proposal is available from the organization.

Merchandising is definitely something the park could use more of. On my first ever visit last summer, I was disappointed to discover that the only Playland-specific merchandise they sold was one style of long-sleeved T-shirt. I really would have liked more choices!
