Aerial Antics: The Growth of Legoland California

Legoland California has expanded numerous times since it first opened in 1999.  The park now features nine themed areas and includes the only Legoland branded water park, but we're getting ahead of ourselves.

This shot is from before two larger expansions had taken place, and was taken in the early 2000s.  The Northeast section of the park was a blank canvas at this point.  Some landscaped areas adjacent to the untouched region also looked prime for developing.

And so develop they did!  The big dirt section remains, but in 2006 Legoland California added the Pirate Shores area in that previously unused area in the lower right.

The area included a big splash battle attraction, along with several other rides like a kiddie log flume.

This past summer saw the biggest expansion of all when Legoland's water park opened.  This development really shows the size of the open space the park has, as a water park didn't even fill the entire space!

With so much more room to expand still remaining, we can only imagine what else will fill these images in the coming years.  All photos were from Google Earth.
