Worlds of Fun Increases 2011 Expansion to $8 Million

Good news for fans of Worlds of Fun - the park has just increased their 2011 expansion from their originally announced $5 million to $8 million - with plenty of new goodies in store for guests.

The park announced today that Planet Snoopy (which was announced at $5 million, then upped to $6 million) won't be the only expansion next year.  All that hinting the park did as to what was going on in the former location of the Festhaus has been explained - Geauga Lake's Carousel will open at the park next year.

After Geauga Lake closed in 2007 it was highly rumored that the Carousel would be moved to Worlds of Fun, and four years later that's exactly what will happen. The ride dates back to 1926 and was built by Marcus Illions, when it reopens in the Spring it will be the third operating Illions ride anywhere.  Worlds of Fun has had Carousel Works fully refurbish the ride so that it will be in original condition for park visitors.  Kudos to Cedar Fair and Worlds of Fun for this move.

Worlds of Fun will also build a new permanent group catering structure elsewhere in the park that will accommodate groups that number in the thousands.  Be sure to check out all the details in the press release from the park.

This will be the third operating Illions Carousel. One is at Six Flags New England and the other is here at the Columbus Zoo.

Not sure where they are getting the number 3 from as I believe the carousel at Congress Park in NY is an Illions, as well the Heckscher Carousel also in NY. Maybe they mean all original or "Supreme"? Either way it is great to see it was saved instead of pieced.
