Checking Out Aquatopia: Massive New Indoor Water Park

Located adjacent to the Camelback Ski trails and the summer time favorite Camelbeach Water Park in Pennsylvania, the brand new Camelback Resort will feature a massive 170,000 square foot indoor water park and family play area.

Named Aquatopia, the water park will feature some of the latest slide designs, with many being provided by WhiteWater West.  The $163 million project sits on 25 acres and includes over 400 rooms in eight story towers with a planned 2015 opening.

The project is so large that it is actually the largest indoor water park ever built in a single phase.  Above are two concepts for locations inside the water park and family play area, showing that theming will be an important part of Aquatopia.  The 30,000 square foot dry play area include an arcade, two story lazer tag, mini-bowling, a giant ropes course, mini-golf and more.

The water park is 125,000 square feet along, making it the largest in the Eastern U.S.  It will be covered with a transparent roofing that will allow sun bathing all year.

This drawing shows the lower level of the water park, with plenty more to be found above.  You can see from the drawing that there is a large wave pool, lazy river, and a flow rider surfing simulator.  There's also the swim up and dry bar with a huge plane located on top of it on the left.  The water play area looks pretty substantial, and is said to be the first in a new generation of structures.

Moving to the upper level is where things get very interesting, just look at that mass of slides!  Aquatopia will have 19 slides total, more than many large outdoor water parks.  As I said earlier many are from WhiteWater, you can see a long water coaster, family raft slides, a Constrictor, body slides and more.  There's also a new prototype fusion slide, the green/yellow one, that has a Sphere along with Wave wall feature in the middle of the path.  When you look at the larger image and start to study it you keep seeing new slides all packed into that space!

The resort's new website is up and running, showing off all the features that will be offered.  Feel free to explore at your leisure.
