Dragon's Challenge -- Won't Ever Duel Again
The Orlando Sentinel reported Wednesday that the Dragon's Challenge -- formerly the Dueling Dragons -- won't duel again.
The decision comes on the heels of several injuries caused on the ride, and while exact details of those incidents have not been released by the park, the Orlando Sentinel surmises that the statements park officials made following those incidents -- emphasizing its policy which requires guests to secure loose articles -- suggests that the injuries may have been caused by loose items falling from passengers during the ride. In total, records show there were five injuries on the ride in the past 10 years.
Previously, both the Ice and Fire sides of the 1999 Bolliger & Mabillard Inverted Coaster were set to drop from the lift simultaneously. Whenever a train on one side was launched before the train on the other side, the lift speed would automatically adjust so that the other train would catch up.
When Islands of Adventure added the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, they renamed the ride to better fit the new theme of the land. Besides changing the name, the park made extensive changes to the ride queue.
