March 2011 NewsPlusNotes Poll Results

Our March 2011 poll queried what our readers' favorite of the oldest operating wooden coasters was.  To say the least, Kennywood had this poll locked down.

The park's Jack Rabbit was the true winner, with 19% of the vote.  Kennywood also scored the second place spot, Thunderbolt, with 18% - a close race.

An even closer race was for 3rd and 4th place.  Dorney's Thunderhawk received only one more vote than the Coney Island Cyclone. (both with about 16% of the vote)

Santa Cruz' Giant Dipper took 5th with 11%, followed by the oldest ride, Leap The Dips in 6th.  Kennywood makes another appearance with the Racer in 7th place.

Underscoring the non-scientific nature of our polls, it was brought to my attention that my list may not be complete.  For instance, The Wild One at Six Flags America is celebrating it's 94th season this year, having opened in 1917.  It was moved from Massachusetts, but continues to operate!

Look for a new poll coming soon!

I rode Wild One several times from 1987-1989. Great coaster at that time.
