Star Trek The Experience Closing

It looks like Star Trek The Experience in Las Vegas really is going to be closed by the end of the year. The attraction, at the Las Vegas Hilton, is currently owned and operated by Cedar Fair, which ended up with the attraction when they purchased the former Paramount Parks.

This article from TrekMovie says that a Cedar Fair spokesperson said that they have no plans to renew their contract with CBS for the attraction when it expires in the end of 2008. Since they would be responsible for clearing out the rides, they'd probably close it in the fall to have enough time.

Looks like the on way it could be saved is if Cedar Fair sold the whole thing and the new owner negotiated a new contract to keep it open. Go visit it while you can if you've ever wanted to check it out!

Oh, and for the conspiracy theorists out there, the GM of Star Trek The Experience is Dick Kinzel's (Cedar Fair's CEO) son!

How ironic- Cedar Fair is probably the most borg like of any theme park companies yet they drop ST:E. But really, who honestly didn't see this one coming? Stuff like this prevents me from ever warming up to Cedar Fair. Is it something new? Better rip it out! Just because every theme park competitor successfully incorporates characters, theming (ST:E), and animals (SFWOA) doesn't mean that the public might actually like these kinds of things. Must be a fluke. Quick, better rip those trees out at those new acquisitions. Resistance is futile!
