Kennywood New For 2008

Let's hear it for another new dark ride! Yay!

I love darkrides, so Kennywood's announcement of Ghostwood Estate as their new for 2008 attraction pleases me. This news was leaked on the internet pretty badly, but now it's official.

The interactive, trackless, eight room, $2 million ride will replace the already torn-down Gold Rusher ride and will feature over 200 targets, and numerous CGI effects.

They laser system is by LaserStar, and the ride itself is from Halloween Productions Inc., an ever growing Halloween industry company that has already created tons of haunted houses across the country.

Read the official press release and see the art (both .pdf only) at Kennywood's site.

The facade reminds me of Nightmare Manor/Stillwalk Manor on Casino Pier in Seaside Heights, NJ. Now with this, and Knoebel's excellent Haunted Mansion, and Waldameer's Whacky Shack, and if Conneaut resurrects the Bill Tracy Fright Zone from Ohio, which came from West View, Pittsburgh in 1979, was built 1963 as the Haunted House, Waldameer's dark rides were also built by Bill Tracy in 1970-1972 just prior to his death. I myself live by Dorney Park, 2 miles west, since I was born Jan 1974. I saw all the changes at DP including the loss of the old dark rides between 1983-1993 and the haunted houses added for HalloWeekends. I wish more parks would build haunted houses like this new one at KW, especially parks that have none.

Thanks for all the historical info! I love that stuff. I agree with you, I wish more parks would have the guts to build new dark rides.
