The Latest On Kentucky Kingdom

Ed Hart's quest to get Kentucky Kingdom reopened has more than proven his dedication to the property, at least in my eyes. After quite a few twists and turns, starts and stops, Mr. Hart feels that a deal could be close that would have the park reopen next summer.

It is by no mean a definite at this point, however.  The closed theme park, which Six Flags walked away from after the 2009 season, has sat unused for the years since.  Currently a combination of private financing, backed by a local investor, and a cooperative agreement with the Fair Board is needed to get the park open once more.

If the current proposal is made final, and work starts to reopen in 2012, Kentucky Kingdom would see an expanded water park and some new family attractions, but not the large expansion once planned.  That could still come in the future, but only if public financing is made available.

We'll be sure to keep our eyes on this one.
