Kings Dominion's New Delirium Thrill Ride Almost Ready to Spin

After completing the removal of the Shockwave stand-up roller coaster, Kings Dominion moved quick on assembling their new for 2016 thrill ride, Delerium, on the coaster's former site.  Over the past couple months the park went from just finishing up the ride's foundations and mechanical building to fully erecting the new attraction.

This photo is from a few weeks ago when the legs of the giant pendulum swing ride were installed.  Delirium is a Mondial "Revolution" flat ride.

Once the four support arms were in place the next piece to install was the giant motor that sits atop them.  The motor is responsible for getting the main pendulum, containing up to 40 riders seated facing outward, swinging up to 115 feet above the midway at a 120 degree angle.

After the motor and pendulum arm were installed, all that was left to go in was the actual ring of 40 seats.  This photo shows the completed ride - how about those colors?  Delerium is sure to "pop" and give plenty of new life to the Candy Apple Grove section of the theme park.

I love watching rides go up on park webcams, and love aerial views even more - so this new cam the park has live is extra-awesome!  The view of the ride from above shows that Delirium's queue and other walkways are now poured, though the main midways adjacent to it still needs some work.  There's also considerable space leftover from the overall area that Shockwave used.

Kings Dominion opens for the 2016 season on Friday, March 25th, less than three weeks from today.
