What's Going On With Kong at Islands of Adventure

After watching some of the first steel for this building going up during my visit in October, we now get some fantastic aerial views of the rumored King Kong attraction at Islands of Adventure thanks to Jake's Adventures.

If you click that link you'll be able to see many more photos of what's be going on in between Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls and the Jurassic Park River Adventure, in a new mini-land rumored to be themed as Skull Island.  If you look closely you can see the structure starting to go up on the left-front of the building for theming (rock work, I would guess).  I would wager that the overall appearance of Skull Island will fit in nicely with the neighboring Jurassic Park.

The ride's show building takes up the majority of the area, so we won't be seeing a full new land built at Islands of Adventure with this project, but who cares!  The resort's unprecedented expansion is continuing, and there are now even rumors of this new Kong attraction opening sooner than we thought.

As for what will happen in this big building, some reports have leaked out that the attraction will combine the giant 3-D screens seen in Universal Hollywood with a giant Kong animatronic as well.  Sounds like a good mix - it continues Universal's recent love of 'screen based' rides with a traditional dark ride appeal.

Now we just need the resort to actually announce the new ride...
