PortAventura Brings Cirque du Soleil To Guests in 2014

It was only a matter of time until a park brought one of Cirque du Soleil's traveling shows on as a temporary attraction, and Spain's PortAventura theme park has made that move.  Next season the park will present Kooza, "an adrenaline rush of acrobatics in a zany kingdom" during the summer months as part of the park's entertainment lineup.

The show will be performed in a traditional Cirque tent on the property, and will be able to handle a daily spectator capacity of 2,400 guests.  The addition of the show helps cement PortAventura's status as one of the premier vacation destinations in all of Europe - the park now sees over 4 million guests per season.

Kooza "tells the story of The Innocent, a melancholy loner in search of his place in the world. Kooza is a return to the origins of Cirque du Soleil; It combines two circus traditions - acrobatic performance and the art of clowning. The show highlights the physical demands of human performance in all its splendour and fragility, presented in a colourful mélange that emphasizes bold slapstick humour."

"The Innocent's journey brings him into contact with a panoply of comic characters such as the King, the Trickster, and the Obnoxious Tourist and his Bad Dog.  Between strength and fragility, laughter and smiles, turmoil and harmony, Kooza explores themes of fear, identity, recognition and power."

No specific announcement was made yet as to exactly when the show will start at PortAventura.  The park is also currently building another new attraction, but has yet to share details.  From recent construction work it appears as though it is some sort of heavily themed boat/flume attraction.  We'll have to stay tuned to learn more!
