Legoland Florida Opens New Star Wars Miniland Display

What do you get when you combine a legion of pint-sized Darth Vaders, a healthy serving of storm troopers, and over 1.5 million Lego bricks?  The grand opening of Legoland Florida's Star Wars Miniland Model display, that's what!

The Florida theme park officially opened the expansion of their Miniland today with quite a Star Wars themed celebration.  The expansion took 12 months to design, build, and install, and is built in 1:20 scale.  All of the models feature lighting and animation that bring the scenes to life before the eyes of visitors.

“We are celebrating much more than the opening of a new model display,” said Legoland Florida General Manager Adrian Jones.  “We are witnessing the collaboration of two unequaled brands.  Lego is one of the most powerful toy brands in the world, and Star Wars is arguably the best-known and loved franchise in the history of film, television, literature and gaming.”

Above we see Mr. Jones getting ready to slice through the opening ribbon with his light saber, along with several of the 4 and 5 year old children, dressed as Darth Vader, who helped with the opening.

The Miniland expansion is broken out into seven different scenes, including one from each feature film and the seventh from the animated series The Clone Wars.  The scenes include such famous Star Wars locations as Naboo, Tatooine and the icy planet Hoth.  Star Wars themed Miniland expansions have already opened at other Legoland theme parks around the world and have proven to be an extremely popular addition.

Somehow I doubt that Star Wars at Legoland Florida will be the first to buck that trend.  Congratulations to the park for their latest expansion!
