Seattle's Great Wheel Now Open to Visitors

Visitors to Seattle, Washington, now have a new way to get some spectacular views of the city.  If they like, they can take a spin on the Seattle Great Wheel, a 175 foot tall observation wheel located on Pier 57 which extends 40 feet over Elliot Bay.

From the top of the structure breathtaking views of Mt. Rainier, Seattle's skyline, the Olympic Mountains, and the adjacent bay are available as the wheel slowly completes its rotations.

The Seattle Great Wheel was manufactured by Chance Rides, and is one of the company's R-60 Giant Wheels, several of which are already operating around the globe.  The wheel features 42 individual climate controlled gondolas, each of which can hold eight passengers.

For an added thrill, the wheel's VIP gondola comes with four leather bucket seats and a glass floor.  That's bound to make even the strongest stomachs a bit queasy!

For more information on the Seattle Great Wheel, which just officially opened on June 29th, check out their website here.
