More On Kentucky Kingdom Closing

The park's 2009 map, you can still download it here as a final souvenir!

Well it's looking more like my theory that Six Flags was just playing hardball in order to get a new lease for Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom on their terms was a bit of rubbish. After reading this article, it seems like Six Flags has no intention of opening the park again regardless of what the State Fair Board offers.

It's also quickly turning into a 'he said, she said' type situation regarding the actual negotiations of the lease. It mostly seems like the Fair Board was being quite standoffish, and is now trying to play innocent, since they realize just how serious Six Flags was.

From some of Mark Shapiro's comments in that article, it seems like the park is pretty much dead. He said "we’re definitive in our decision here — we’re going to walk away," and from speaking with him on those Blogger calls... well my gut tells me that when he says something like that he means it.

The Mayor is saying he wants to find someone else to run the park, but at this point that seems like grasping at straws. I don't know the terms of the lease they had, but if they can move out all those rides why would anyone in this economy even bother trying to build a new park in that spot?

I guess it's time to add the "defunct parks" tag to SFKK posts!
