The three-year, $5 million expansion plan announced by Quassy Amusement Park last spring has begun to take shape--literally. The steel structure pictured above, which is currently located deep in the heart of SBF Visa Group's manufacturing facility in Italy, will soon be shipped to Middlebury, Connecticut to begin its new life as a family drop tower. By the time Quassy kicks off its 102nd season of operation on April 24, 2010, it will look a little something like this...

This new family thrill ride, dubbed Free Fall 'N', will lift up to 12 passengers some 35 feet in the air and then return them to Earth via a series of abrupt drops. SBF Visa Group is building the ride to custom height and color specifications which were finalized during the IAAPA trade show back in November. Free Fall 'N' will be the first unit produced by this company to feature an Earth-friendly computerized LED lighting system, which is sure to dazzle on those balmy New England evenings.

In addition to the new ride, those visiting Quassy this summer will also enjoy a host of infrastructure upgrades. The most noticeable will likely be the brand new stainless steel food preparation and service area which has been built within the park's largest catering area, Fieldside Pavilion. Quassy's Trabant ride has also been completely refurbished during the off-season. Sounds like it's shaping up to be a great season already, and these changes are but a taste of what's to come over the next couple years!
