Maine's Funtown Splashtown USA Not Opening for 2020 Season

Maine's Funtown Splashtown USA amusement and water park has announced that it will not open for the 2020 season due to the restrictions placed on it related to the pandemic.

The park posted a long letter to guests on Facebook which details how difficult it was to make the decision.   In order to make safety a top priority, the park will sit out the season and hope for a better shot in 2021.  They will make all passes purchased for this season valid for 2021.

In local news stories about this, the reasoning seems more blunt.  Main has put restrictions on large gatherings in place through the end of June, and the park is also having a harder time getting foreign workers in the country because of changes to the J-1 Visa program.

We can only guess that the park doesn't feel that operating in any way from July onward would be worth their time, or perhaps they don't feel that restrictions will even be lifted at that point.  Obviously that's their business decision, and only they would be privy to the details of why a shortened operating season is not worth it to them.

Regardless, it's still the first decent-sized amusement and water park in the country to throw in the towel for the 2020 season, which is unsettling.

Understand the restrictions are extremely tough which alone is enough to hold off. But really lack of employees.. We have like 30 million newly unemployed people which would like some employement.
