Weekly Rewind 9.4.10

Sea World Parks and Entertainment has welcomed David D'Alessandro as the new Chairman of the Board. David retired from John Hancock in 2006, where he was the Chairman and Chief Executive. He will work to provide "strategic guidance and counsel via the company's board," meaning he is not a day-to-day executive.

Disney California Adventure is going to keep the party going this fall when they premier ElecTRONica, a new nighttime dance party celebration that will ride the success of Glow Fest. The party will feature a theme that ties to the new TRON: Legacy film that comes out in December. The party will take place Friday through Sunday through the Fall months.

Space Mountain at the Magic Kingdom in Florida has receive a new audio track to accompany the trip to outer space. Instead of installing speakers on the trains, Orlando Attractions reports that some 60 speakers were placed along the track. Guests now soar into deep space while hearing an upbeat, almost techno sound track.

Work continues on the Zippin Pippin at Bay Beach Amusement Park. The city just accepted an offer from a contractor to build the ride that was significantly less than their estimates. I also noticed that the park now has a webpage for the ride, though it does not have much content as of yet.

Sea World Orlando will hold their Halloween Spooktacular on select weekends this Fall. The family-friendly event will feature Abby Cadabby's Halloween Adventure, a 4,000 sq. ft. outdoor pathway where kids can help Abby find her magical wand. Strolling Entertainment, cookie decorating, Trick-or-Treating and plenty more round out the event.

Busch Gardens Tampa has announced that after a six year run KaTonga: Musical Tales will close on September 6th at the Moroccan Palace Theater. Replacing the show will be Cirque Dreams Jungle Fantasy, featuring an international cast of aerialists, contortionists, acrobats, musicians, and more.

More progress is being made on Quassy's new wooden coaster. Plenty of footers are now poured, as seen in these shots on the Gravity Group's Facebook. We should see the actual coaster supports reaching for the sky quite soon.
