Weekly Rewind 8.21.10

The New York Times took a trip to Lake Compounce to experience the wild ride that is Boulder Dash. The nice write-up they did on the coaster can be found here. I'm not surprised that the author loved the ride, now I want to see him take a spin on it in the pouring rain!

Busch Gardens Tampa has announced their rockin' lineup for this year's Howl-O-Scream event - 8 Haunted Houses, 5 Scare Zones, plus live entertainment and more. New this year is Alone, an extra-charge maze that you must make it through all by yourself. This year's event is hosted by Sylvie, who's killer band, My X, can't wait to show everyone a good time.

A new B&M Coaster for Germany's Heide Park? The track that has arrived at the park makes that a yes. Not sure exactly what kind of ride it will be, and no announcement from the park yet, either - but a new B&M is always exciting. See the photos here.

Quassy Amusement Park will retire their Mad Mouse coaster at the end of September. To celebrate its time at the park they will offer free rides on September 25th and 26th. The park will also auction off the ride's entrance sign, with proceeds going to Give Kids The World. The park is removing the ride in anticipation of their new Gravity Group wooden coaster, opening next Spring.

Congratulations to Universal Orlando's Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey on reaching one million riders faster than any previous Universal attraction!

Cedar Fair's Coasting For Kids event, held at the chain's 11 amusement parks, raised over $32,000 for Give Kids The World. The event started at Cedar Point last year and was expanded to all the park this year. Here's hoping for an even bigger turnout next year!

Disney lost one of its legends this past week when Harrison "Buzz" Price passed away at the age of 89. Buzz was Walt's economist who helped him pick out the location of both Disneyland and Walt Disney World. Laughing Place has a nice article on Buzz that you can check out.

Carowinds has continued their photo hints about the 2011 attraction it will be adding. Two of the photos are above, both of which look Snoopy themed to me. On the left appears to be a spot of Charlie Brown's shirt, and on the right a close up of Snoopy's foot. Could we see a nighttime Starlight experience coming to the park next year?

Construction on Busch Garden Tampa's new coaster is continuing, with major work underway on the ride's station area. BGTNation did a photo update of the work, you can check that out here.

It won't be long before there will be no need for Scream Machine deconstruction updates since there isn't much left of the ride. The ride is still coming down, though at a bit of a slower pace. Great Adventure History has the latest photos.
